Post 2020 member survey results

On page 2 of this years application for membership a survey form was included. http://www.nzmpba.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/NZMPBA-appl-for-membership-form-2020-plus-Survey-2.doc

I have collated the results of the 27 financial members that filled in and returned the form out of 45 members that we have so far for 2020. A 60% response rate and the distribution of classes seems about right.

The results can be found by opening the link below.

http://www.nzmpba.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/NZMPBA-Member-Survey-Summary-2020.pdf

It makes interesting reading and we can see where our strengths and weaknesses lie in terms of boats that could potentially support events we could run. Or read another way this is how we are voting for the classes we want to run, on a basis of one vote per boat.

For those that feel unrepresented you could always send a form in to the treasurer who will pass to me for inclusion.

I am appalled that the BOP Model Power Boat Club would in terms of membership be one of the largest clubs in the country and yet only two responded to the questionere and I was one of them. I can only say I am very disappointed in the response from our club. Come on members there is an opportunity for you to respond as above, the national committee reacted to criticism from members by doing the survey and you as members couldn't give a dam and fill out the survey. So in future don't complain or accuse the national body for not doing anything in trying to promote Model Boating. Cheers Sorry

Hi Bob,
I am looking again at the returned forms and it would seem some of the answers are ambiguous with respect to P1 or stock. I will dig a little deeper but I think you are correct most of those stated as P1 are actually Stock(unmodified Zen 26s).

In your own survey for you have written Stock/P2 Hydro. My take on this is you have a hydro that you may run with an unmodified Zen 26 or a modified Zen 26. Please confirm. This is where it gets a little blurred as in boat count, I am inclined to count as 2 boats because it essentially supports 2 classes.

In reality the strength of model boating lies in what is actually happening at club level on regular club/fun days. What is being brought out and being run on the water is more relevant than what sits sheds gathering dust. Classes are simply a guideline out side of National championships and records.

The real question is just what is goal to be achieved with knowing what boats are out there? I.e. what is the association going to do with this information? Nice to have the information, but if there is no real purpose, what happens now?

When it comes to sanctioned regattas it is the host club that determines what the classes/format is. Ultimately it still comes back to what is being done at club level.
